I will show you step by step process so that you don’t need to take any extra stress and the learning process will be hassle-free. But, you must follow each step properly. If you want to make a beautiful wheel chock for your motorcycle, you can easily follow these steps.

Essential Equipment

  • Welder
  • Angle grinder
  • Oxy-Acetylene Torch
  • Pencil,
  • Tape measure,
  • Steel angle, etc.

Step-1:

First of all, you need to gather all of the essential equipment. You need two pieces of chock measuring 8’ each. Now, you need to start the main work. You need to measure from the end. Mark one line at 18” and the other two lines at 24” and 30”.

At this point, you need to cut an angle of 22 ½° at the 18” mark. Now, it’s time to cut another notch. At the 24” mark, you need to perform a cut of 11 ¼° on both sides to get your required angle. Try to get a quality chop saw so that you can perform all of your cut smoothly.

Step-2:

In this step, you need to perform the necessary bending work of the steel. Get your oxy-Acetylene torch to get the job done. First of all, light it up carefully. Now, it’s time to heat the steel. Don’t forget to take your safety measures.

Because the oxy-acetylene flame is good enough to cause a severe burn injury in your body. You must wait until the steel turns orange in color. The orange color will be a signal for you to start the bending.

If you use any kind of steel barrel to support you as a work surface, you must weld the angle. It will give you maximum stability. Be careful of what you are bending at what point. You should bend at the right angle at the right point of the steel.

At the 18” mark, bend the steel to 45 degrees. After bending, you need to cool it up. After doing this, you need to go for the next section as well. Bend that to 22 ½° and don’t forget to cool that up as well.

After finishing the bending work at every necessary point, you need to cut off the extra rails at the 30” mark. A good quality cutting wheel will help you out here. Now, you need to chamfer each corner with the utmost care.

Step-3:

If you have done everything that I instructed above so far, Trust me; you are on the right track and it only lasts a few steps left to complete the project. Now, don’t forget to perform welding at the notches.

Take a grinder for cleaning the workspace and steels. You need to make them smooth. Because the tire of your motorcycle will rub there so often. Try to knock off the corners to make them safe and give your wheel chock a professional look.

Step-4:

In this step, you must perform the welding work on the braces. You just can’t overlook the importance of welding the braces.

Because your wheel chock will get the necessary support from them. However, you must ensure that they are in the right spots so that your tire gets the right support.

Weld the braces properly so that you can use this chock for a long time. Now, get the last piece which is the long support to your chock. Weld it properly to make it perfect and durable.

Step-5:

Well done! You have completed all of the complex steps so far. Now, you just need to perform a few finishing steps to make it ready for use. Sand and paint it properly.

A new coat of paint will give it that professional look. Bolt down the chock properly. Now, load your motorcycle in the chock.

This amazing homemade chock will keep the front wheel of your motorcycle steady and it will not twist or shift. However, this chock will not help you further and you are still required to strap it out. But, if you install D-Rings, you will not need to strap the bike anymore.
